| Mentor Certification Program |
|
The first session of the Mentor Certification Program is well underway. The participants are excited and continually learning new skills that they're implementing and practicing daily. There is one more class for this group before they take their certification exam and receive the honor and designation of Certified Mentor.
Do you want to be part of this elite group? Well, you can be if you register for the next session of the Mentor Certification Program that starts on October 13, 2011. The announcement was recently sent to all WOVI chapters and we're currently accepting applications. As a reminder, this program is not just for WOVI members. It's open to everyone and we encourage global participation. Since mentoring is such an integral part of WOVI, we want to make sure that it is done exceptionally well. That happens by becoming a Certified Mentor.
If you're interested in learning more about the program, contact the Program Administrator at CMProgram@wovi.com. We have a special rate for WOVI members and an installment payment plan to make it easy to enroll.

WOVI Arlington launches!!!
Kasey Smith (WOVI North Dallas) and I (WOVI Addison) had the distinct pleasure of attending the inaugural chapter meeting for WOVI Arlington on July 21st. Arlington is about half way between Dallas and Fort Worth. Pauline Shirley was the featured speaker with the amazing topic of "Unbelievable Influence." I also had the pleasure of facilitating the MentoRing activity which had all of us thinking of how and who we influence...quite eye-opening and fun! The Member Spotlight was Danielle Chonody who is a dynamic, energetic, and successful entrepreneur.
Let me introduce you to the newest chapter leadership team. From left to right: Danielle Chonody (VP Communications), Mary German (President), and Angelia Adams (VP Administration).
WOVI Arlington will be meeting on the second Thursday of every month at the Arlington Hilton Hotel. Be looking for these fabulous women to offer their influence to the women in the Mid-Cities area of the Metroplex.

| WOVI! Ten Years and Growing... and Growing |
|
Welcome WOVI Arlington to WOVI's family of chapters! Launched in July under the dedicated leadership of Mary German, Danielle Chonody and Angelia Adams, WOVI Arlington meets the second Thursday of each month at 6:00 PM at the Hilton Arlington, on E. Lamar in Arlington. Do your friends, family and colleagues who live in the Arlington, Grand Prairie, Manchester and Mid-Cities areas a favor: Invite them to WOVI Arlington.
This year interest in WOVI is growing dramatically with potential opportunities for chapters from coast to coast as well as internationally. The excitement builds!
Be considerate of your contacts and connections that don't yet have WOVI available to them. Generate interest by sharing your WOVI experiences with them. Word of mouth is the most successful form of advertising. And, be sure to let us know. WOVI, Inc. follows up and stays in touch with any and all potential opportunities for new chapters.

WOVI Frisco
AdventuRing!! WOVI Frisco has been Celebrating the Power and Wisdom of Women, 2001-2011: A Decade of Influence. Maps and tents start us off on the adventure. In January each member and guest received a map of the world to begin our year of exploration. Special spaces on the map allow for the collection of stamps for all the stops we make along our Wisdom tour. Each month introduces Frisco members to another woman who has had an impact on the world. Table tent centerpieces adorn the tables at each meeting with facts, bios and impactful information about the influential woman of the month. The WOVI Frisco Facebook page boasts inspirational posts, including quotes and videos, to keep with us throughout the month until we meet again. The influential women we have bumped into along our journey so far are: Oprah Winfrey, Wangari Maathai and Carly Fiorina.
WOVI Addison
For their July chapter meeting, WOVI Addison took the opportunity to focus on building connections and enjoyed a longer-than-usual MentoRing activity in a fun way...they wore hats! The hats generated a lot of discussion and emphasized information about the wearer's style. As you can see in the picture, everyone looked fabulous.
Back row, left to right: Sheila Riddle, Glenda Heil, Guest, Rebecca Ramos, Lalla Shackelford, Lynda Rhodes, Cynthia Duke-Birowski, Jeanette Korab-Gorsky, Martha Campbell, Paula Guthrie.
Front row, left to right: Shelley Duke, Jill St. Vincent, Marilyn Patrice Fleming, Heather McCamey.

| 2011 WOVI Conference for Women |
Where will you be on October 14 & 15? Why, the 2011 Leadership Summit and Mentor Recognition Luncheon followed by the 10th Annual WOVI Conference for Women, of course! Yes, it's the time of year to begin thinking about attending this energizing and educational conference.
On Friday, October 14, we have the Leadership Summit where you'll learn the ins and outs of chapter leadership from previous award-winning chapter leaders. Then attend the awe-inspiring Mentor Recognition Luncheon with a surprise keynote speaker.
On Saturday, October 15, we continue the experience with some fabulous keynote speakers lined up to educate and entertain you. Lynda Anthony, our opening keynote speaker, will be followed by a prestigious panel of amazing women, and Elizabeth Ellis, our featured speaker for lunch.
There will be tremendous break-out sessions in the afternoon that also comprise a "Conference Within a Conference" with the focus on high school and college students and anyone who is in-transition (career-wise or otherwise).
We have wonderful vendors lined up for the Vendor Faire on both days so you get ample shopping opportunities along with the wit and wisdom of our presenters and participants. We've got some surprises in store for you as well. And of course, we'll celebrate as only WOVI women do...with a lot of laughter, a few tears, and always the connections with others that make WOVI so unique.
You don't want to miss it! For more information, check out the link on the WOVI website and make sure you register soon for the Early Bird reduced price.

| Mentor of the Year Nominations |
|
Do you know a woman who is an exceptional mentor? Maybe someone from a company with which you do business, or your children's school, or a nonprofit organization where you volunteer? What about someone in your neighborhood or social group? How about someone who has mentored you directly? Don't you think they deserve to be recognized for being an outstanding mentor? WOVI certainly thinks so!
WOVI, Inc. is accepting nominations for Mentor of the Year and we want to honor those nominees and bestow the highest accolade to the winner at our annual Mentor Recognition Luncheon on Friday, October 14.
How do you nominate someone? It's very simple. The nomination form is available on the WOVI website at www.wovi.com. Fill it out and submit it. WOVI, Inc. will do the rest. Make sure you show up for the Mentor of the Year Luncheon to show your support and acknowledge their amazing mentoring achievements.

| WOVI Frisco Gets Creative |
Relay for Life is an opportunity to raise money for the American Cancer Society, celebrate survivors, and honor those who have lost their lives to cancer. It is an overnight event lasting twelve hours long from 6:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. (Although this year it was 6:00 p.m. to midnight due to a rain reschedule!) To make the night fun and raise money, teams are encouraged to have onsite fundraisers. WOVI Frisco thought that the best way to do this would be to showcase two of WOVI's InterestRings. They set out a blank journal and participants stopped to jot down thoughts as they walked by on the track. Next to the journal was a description of WOVI and the WritersRing. The ArtistsRing exhibit was definitely popular. They started out with a blank canvas and some acrylic paints. As Relay for Life participants walked the track, they stopped by to add their flare to the painting. The first person to paint was a school teacher from Hunt Elementary, and so Hunt was the first word on the painting.
As the night progressed, passersby continued to add their inspiration-- everything from words and symbols to flowers and hearts. The love present at Relay for Life is truly reflected in the final piece.
The painting was raffled off along with other items toward the end of the evening. If you look closely, you can still see the impression of WOVI in the painting which symbolizes that WOVI should be interwoven into all aspects of our lives.
Here's what chapter President Jolene Blazer had to say about the experience:
"Congratulations to the Relay for Life team!! This bonding experience not only gained exposure for our chapter and fostered creativity and inspiration to other participants through painting, but also raised over $1700 for a cause that is close to many of our members' hearts."

Interesting Information
|
|
WOVI women already know about the benefits of mentoring. However, if you're looking for some interesting information about what a major US corporation thinks about mentoring, use the link below to listen to Richard Wilhelm, Executive Vice President at Booz Allen as he talks about men mentoring women for advancement.

Election of Chapter Officers
WOVI Leaders, it's time to brush up on our parliamentary procedure! It's election time--transfer of power--succession planning--success planning--whatever you want to call it! The year is moving right along and October, the official annual meeting time for your chapter, is around the corner. Per our bylaws, new officer elections are the first business item of your annual meeting.
Make it special--for the incoming officers and the members. Empower the ones who are voting as well as the ones being voted in!
Reminders: Terms are limited to 2 years in the same position. Six months or more of a year counts as 1 year of a term. The current president is NOT part of the nominating committee. Women on the nominating committee CAN be nominated. Nominees must agree on the position and want to serve. Minimum required for nomination: President, First VP, Second VP, VP Administration, and VP Finance. Other positions can also be nominated now or appointed by the new board later.
Timeline of Election Process
August: President appoints nominating committee (minimum of 3.) Nominating committee reports at August monthly meeting and announces slate of officers.
September: Elections held at monthly meeting. If there are no additional nominees, vote may be by voice (Yes or No.) Current members only vote. Congratulate your new 2012 officers!!!
October-December: Officers attend Leadership Summit and begin transition into office in January 2012.
Forming and Promoting Local InterestRings
One of the benefits of attending WOVI meetings and events is finding out what you have in common with other women. InterestRings, such as the ArtistsRing, EmpoweRing, and WritersRing, were born out of a desire to meet more often and grow in a specific area or endeavor. They continue today as a benefit of membership. Attendees to an individual InerestRing can be a guest twice before becoming a members and continuing.
Chapters are encouraged to promote these extracurricular activities which are under the jurisdiction of the VP Mentoring. If you are working on a new InterestRing, whether new to your area or new in scope, be sure to gain approval before starting. Activities MUST remain true to our nonprofit status as well as to the mission, vision, and values of WOVI, Inc. Any InterestRings promoting business or commercial endeavors are specifically not allowed. If you have any questions, contact one of the members of the WOVI Management Council (Martha Campbell, Janet Wilemon, or Daisy Wong) to discuss your ideas, goals and plans on these exciting rings!

| LeadersRing |
|
On Thursday, July 14, WOVI hosted the first completely virtual LeadersRing! This was quite a technological accomplishment that we plan to repeat periodically. A few of the benefits of a virtual session include:
- Option for non-Dallas chapters to participate more fully
- Alternative to Saturday sessions
- Recorded session available for playback
If you would like to listen to the playback of this session, contact Martha Campbell at martha@mscampbell.com and put "LeadersRing Playback" in the subject line.
Instead of having a LeadersRing in October, we will host the Leadership Summit at the WOVI Conference. We hope to see you there in person.
